Sometimes you feel like a nut...

Acorn
Created by Beth Johnson
Folded by Michael Sanders
Approximately 7-8” hexagon (lid) and circle (body). Elephant hide.

Folded just over a week ago. I don’t have a whole lot of experience folding from atypical shapes (hexagons, circles) nor in folding tessellations. So this was kind of a new challenge for me. I did enjoy the process of folding the hex tessellation (Eric Gjerde) portion of the model. The underside in particular looks beautiful to me.

This has been on my bucket list since at least 2013. I’m happy to finally check it off. But I’m not satisfied with this first effort and may fold it again someday.

Mary Anne's Butterfly

Folded from 6" duo-colored kami
My favorite quick fold, at the moment.  Lang's solution for getting the antennae and still not be an overly complex model is genius.   Dr. Lang said that he likes the model well enough that it will probably see diagrams made and published, sometime, somewhere.

I only took two classes at PCOC:  Robert Lang's Mary Anne's Butterfly and Beth Johnson's cardinal.

1st Sunday at Marti's yesterday

I was not planning on attending because of work; but after the gymnastics meet ended, I made the hour drive to Marti's.  Missed the first two hours. But most people didn't start leaving until after 5pm.

Andrew Ting tried to teach me Beth Johnson's pig.  Not entirely successful, but it was fun.  Andrew folded one out of a 4 inch square.

Owl-standing!

I am blown away by this:

Beth Johnson Origami:

New owl design. Inspired once again by Tomoko Fuse's book, Spiral. One uncut square, no cuts or glue.

Such a clever usage of an existing technique, "picking up the ball and running with it."
